Better is Disley that consolidated his driver’s championship lead, an important move as he’s on a crucial season phase, were he could be at any round prohibited of racing again at the Ace series, if he gets into the World Championship Top 10. Nevertheless he’s still the leader on an outstanding performance from the Australian driver.
Latter on the day, thing wouldn’t go as smooth for GhostSpeed at the main event, the World Championship.
GhostSpeed would return to its root by lining up again with a Portuguese driver, João Barbosa, who didn’t race for the team since the Australian Grande Prix. Beside him would line up again Blair Disley, who’s on his 8th consecutive race for GhostSpeed.
The Hungarian challenge wouldn’t be easy, and much less trouble free for our drivers. João Barbosa had to fight all throughout the race with pedal problems, which combined with the absence of traction control, led his race into a wall after a mistake from the Portuguese driver.
Blair Disley wouldn’t have mechanical problems, but after having qualified lower than expected, he would climb some positions to be in the points in the last part of the race. But a race incident, with a Silva Eagle Rex car, would lead to a post race penalization, which both GhostSpeed Racing Team and Blair Disley accept.
The World Championship race would end this way with a not so happy ending for GhostSpeed with a dnf for João and a 9th ‘almost at the points’ position for Blair Disley.
GhostSpeed will now be heading to Turkey, where it expects to be back to the good results.
Blair Disley (AUS) 2nd, WS Ace Race comments:
"I would like to say thank you again to João Barbosa allowing me an easy pass on him. Glad to be on the podium again. Fred Gosling is closest to me in the Championship who has points next to their name finished behind me although in that race had similar pace so it was helpful to me that he was behind another car during the beginning. It was also good that Machiel Schonbeck 3 stopped because it meant I could finish in front of him, but he would still be in front of Fred Gosling. Congrats to Yannick Lapchin and Machiel Schonbeck."
João Barbosa (PT) 5th, WS Ace Race comments:
"Well qualify start not so well I had an incident just before the start of my last lap and have to start from 7 I think. At the start of the race I passed Blair, Fred and Kaag, but then I was having some difficulties to get to my pace and was passed by Blair. Then Fred gets me and I lost too much time defending from his attacks. After that I was able to rejoin my pace and keep Fred to a small distance. At the end 5th place was the best I could do today, not the funniest race I had, with the best of it being my fight with Fred, great one mate. Congratulations to Yannick for the win, and Blair for another great result"
Blair Disley (AUS) 9th, World Championship Race comments:
“Glad that everything has happened the way it has. For the future, I need to be quicker in qualifying. Brakes failed with duct 2, but I believe that was because I was not getting enough cooling when behind another car. The key to pass off the track is to stay out longer than the other cars. That worked for me and I gained positions, but also I gained from incidents not involving myself as well. I look forward to the remaining Grand Prixs."
João Barbosa (PT) dnf, World Championship Race comments:
"Well in qualify I had a good pace I wasn’t expecting it because my qualify setup wasn’t so good but I was able to take 16th place. At the start of the race I let the engine die in the grid because I was having a lot of problems with my accelerator pedal, with no sensitivity at all, so I had to start the race from the pit just in front of Chris. I was having a lot of troubles to get the car on the track, because I couldn’t push the throttle as it would give me all the power and with no TC, driving like this is very difficult. Anyway I managed to keep Chris behind me because he was suffering from grip behind me. After the first pit stop I lost that place to him and when we joined Andrey we had a great fight. Chris tried to overtake him but it was very difficult to do it, and then he made a mistake and I passed him. I tried to overtake Andrey but I touched him putting him out of the track (sorry mate). After that I passed also Petter, but after the two pit stops I made a mistake and hit the wall. Anyway poor to have those problems in the pedal, let’s hope I can fix it."
